A Virtual Food Drive In Memory of Michael Alexander Hoffman

Oct 15th - 31st, 2024: 4th Annual Virtual food drive in memory of Michael Hoffman for Hearts & Hands Food Pantry in Charlotte, NC

To donate: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/28SNO9B1SE5UR

Background: In 2022, I was thinking about ways to cope with Michael's first yahrzeit, and something he cared about tremendously and deeply was food security. This was an extremely personal issue for him. I decided that a virtual food drive for the local food bank where we grew up would be a good way to comfort and nourish the living while honoring his memory. We collected enough food to feed an adult for 30 days! This is not to mention all of the toiletries and money that were also donated to this and other food banks in his memory.

The food bank I selected is Hearts & Hands Food Pantry. They serve thousands of families in the Charlotte area. They were originally located steps away from Michael's home during his time at North Meck. I remember going to a similar, nearby (or same location) food bank with him to pick up food for his household when we were dating. I definitely remember going to this location to look for him once, at the direction of his mother. Anyway, this current food bank has an Amazon Wishlist that is updated monthly with what they need the most. This makes it so that people can donate from all over. I have already sent a few things through the Amazon Wishlist and it was super easy.

Hearts & Hands Food Pantry Mission:
"Hearts and Hands Food Pantry exists because we believe food is a basic human right. Every single person regardless of circumstances, age, ethnicity, and beliefs needs nutritious food daily. We minister to the body and spirit of those in need." (click here to view on their site)

If you donate to this or even your own local food bank, I'd love to know what you send! Please post in comments or send a message with what you send between now and Oct. 31st and I'll post our total donations on his Everloved memorial page

I think this is really in line with Michael's values and life mission. I would love to know what people donate. I would find it comforting during this time and think it might comfort many others as well.
